The fourth Star Trekmovie in the so-called "Abramsverse" timeline will be directed by S.J. Clarkson.

You may remember Clarkson's name from the early episodes of Marvel's The Defenders. She helmed the first two episodes of the Netflix miniseries (and executive produced the first one).

Clarkson's new gig notably makes her the first woman to ever direct a Star Trekmovie. Disappointing that it took us 14 movies to actually get here, but Clarkson is a proven talent, and a far better choice than Quentin Tarantino (maybe one of the most WTF headlines of 2017).

The untitled Star Treksequel also brings back another Marvel veteran, Chris Hemsworth, who briefly played Captain Kirk's dad in J.J. Abrams 2009 series reboot. According to Variety, the story reunites the senior Kirk with his son, James (Chris Pine), "in a time travel ploy."

Gotta love Star Trekand its penchant for time travel ploys.

Zachary Quinto will return as Spock, but he and Hemsworth are the only actors named in Variety's report. It seems safe to assume that Pine will be back as well, what with him being one of the stars of the rebooted series.

No word on any other members of the U.S.S. Enterprise crew, which in the past included Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, and John Cho as Sulu. If the former crew does return, at least one role will see major changes, however.

Chekov actor Anton Yelchin died tragically in a 2016 car accident. Star Trek: Beyond, released that same year, marked his last appearance in the series. Abrams has said Yelchin won't be replaced in the Star Trekmovies.
