President Barack Obama made his first public remarks on Donald Trump's presidential win during a brief speech held Wednesday in the White House Rose Garden.
And while viewers around the world tuned in to watch the president speak, a photo courtesy of Washington Poststaff writer David Nakamura shows a side of Obama's speech that viewers didn't see. The image shows the crowd of White House staffers looking hopelessly defeated in the aftermath of Tuesday's election.

"Remarkable scene in the Rose Garden where hundreds of grim-faced White House staffers showed up in solidarity for remarks from President Obama, with VP Biden at his side, on the election outcome," Nakamura wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
Nakamura says the crowd of staffers wordlessly clapped in applause for a more than a minute following Obama's remarks.
In Wednesday's speech. Obama pledged to work alongside Trump's team to ensure a seamless transition.
"The peaceful transition of power is one of the hallmarks of our democracy and over the next few months, we are going to show that to the world," he said.
He also took a few moments to praise his team for the hard work it's accomplished in the last eight years:
"That remarkable work has left the next president with a stronger, better country than the one that existed eight years ago. So, win or lose in this election, that was always our mission. That was our mission from day one. And everyone on our team should be extraordinarily proud of everything that they have done."
